I like that their armour can be destroyed just by shooting it enough or if you shoot their mace when they’re doing their charge attack. They’re Hell Barons but with armour and a big mace. The first one you’re introduced to is the Armored Baron. Well I’m glad to say the new enemy types here do not have that problem. So many new friends to play with!īut how bout them new enemies? If you read my article about Ancient Gods Part 1 you’ll know I didn’t like them at all because of the impact they have on player agency. As it stands, you never need to do that and the grappling points are pointless. This could then lead to encounters wherein you’d have to juggle ground combat with aerial combat. If there were a few grappling points floating around you could use them to launch yourself up. Imagine if there were Cacodemons or some new flying enemy type that stayed high up most of the time and were either resistant to the hookshot or out of its reach. It’s a shame too because it could’ve been used to mix up some encounters. However, there are never times when enemies are outside your range and if you need to get out of a jam you can just hookshot a weaker enemy in the distance or jump and use your 2 air dashes. It seems like the only use it has would be to get higher up in the air or to get out of a jam when you’re surrounded. It does appear in some enemy encounters too but I was never in a situation where it made sense to use one. Most of the time it just serves to help you cross large gaps or passages that are only possible because there’s a grappling hook. It’s not used very well throughout the DLC’s 3 levels. There are now these floating grapple points that you can swing on, and you have some control over where you go when you swing on them so it’s not just a glorified extra jump.Īt least that’s how it seems at first. But anyway, it begins by introducing a new mechanic to use with the hookshot.

I couldn’t tell you what the story is and I don’t remember when Doomguy got a bunch of viking ghosts on his side. The Ancient Gods Part 2 gets off to a really good start, in terms of gameplay at least. Now, I’ve played the second part let’s take a look and see if it’s any better. While I did enjoy it, I had a lot of problems with the new enemies introduced (much to the chagrin of angry fans).

When the first of Doom Eternal’s DLCs came out I was super excited.
